About the PWID + COVID-19 Data Collaborative

The PWID+COVID-19 Data Collaborative is comprised of public health researchers and practitioners interested in understanding how COVID-19 has affected the health of people who inject drugs and what we can do about it.

In 2021, this collaborative used a stakeholder-engaged process to design a framework for understanding the many ways people who inject drugs have been affected by the pandemic. Now, we are looking for partners to contribute data on framework components. We will make summary estimates from these data contributions publicly available to help us all work toward better health for people who inject drugs in the pandemic era.

Our Ask

We need you to join our Collaborative. We’re asking researchers and service providers to share data that can contribute toward a better understanding of pandemic impacts on PWID. Through data sharing and collaboration, we can help address pandemic-related adverse health outcomes in this underserved population.

The Framework

In a series of workshops, a large and diverse group of stakeholders identified many ways that PWID health may have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This framework was used to create the indicators for this Data Collaborative. Many aspects of service delivery, behavior, and health may have changed in the lives of PWID during the pandemic. Our indicators for data sharing are intended to measure those aspects with potential to change infectious disease and overdose risk.
